The Lead Up Part I: Ice Box (Written Dec. 9th)

"We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive." - Albert Einstein

I am sitting here in the icebox that is my room dressed in my Christmas coloured “Ho Ho Ho” fleece pyjama pants, a horribly mismatched gold-yellow Tennessee sweatshirt (purchased by my parents on their latest vacation) and wool socks. A part of me thinks it’s a wonderful thing I am doing – layering up to keep warm rather than using a heating source that depletes fossil fuels or requires a ridiculous amount of energy, but another part of me knows that I am not layered by choice. I secretly would prefer to be lounging in the tiny shorts and see-through tank tops my university roommates grew accustomed too. I even tried to turn on the baseboard heater in my room that has not been used since we moved in over ten years ago and to my dismay, but not to my surprise, it would not work. My feet are purple (I wish I was exaggerating). I am left to wonder if I will awake in the morning or if I will freeze to death.
